Specialist Group Military Intelligence
Eric McVey joined the British Army in 1988 after studying Chemistry at University. His first posting were to Germany. He successfully undertook the Ammunition Technical Officers Course qualifying him an EOD and IEDD Operator. He continued to serve in a number of EOD appointments including operational tours in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. After studying for a Master Degree in Logistics Management he commanded two logistic Squadron on operations before posting as the Regimental Second in Command of 11 EOD Regiment providing EOD and IEDD cover for the UK.
Towards the end of his Service Major McVey worked in CBRNe. He acted as the UK Head of Delegation for 2 NATO CBRN Technical Panels. He was the CBRNe capability lead for UK Special Forces. Major McVey retired for the British Army in 2022 after 34 years’ service. Since then he has been employed as the Director of Operations for the NATO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technical Information Centre (EODTIC). In his spare time Major McVey studied for a degree in Archaeology and has undertaken a number of excavations on the Battlefields of the Western Front in World War One. Since leaving the Regular Army Major McVey has joined the British Army Reserves and is now part of the Specialist Group Military Intelligence. Eric is married to Gillian and as one son George who is training to be a lawyer.
